The Fold is an extremely old place… some people have lived generations here, hiding from the powers that be in Old York and the surrounding areas. Over the years, the Strains of Humanity that live here have diverged, culturally, from the surrounding areas, adopting unique ways of life. These Strain Variants are also highly resistant to change for one reason or another and tend to influence travelers and newcomers alike to adopt their ways, rather than vice versa.
In Dystopia Rising New York, you can choose to adopt a Strain Variant through role-play and adopting the local traditions in costuming. To do so requires an Action Request; if approved we’ll add a note to your sheet.
Strain Variants & Mechanics
Each Strain Variant has an associated mechanic. If enough characters playing a Strain Variants are in play, their impact on the Fold is such that other members of the strain pick up some of their traits. DRNY will announce which Strain Variant mechanics are in play before each game; once announced, any member of the strain can use the mechanic.
DRNY uses the character database to check how many Strain Variants are in play, so if you’re playing one, be sure to check in at least a week prior to be counted towards the necessary numbers.
