Gear Swap and Donations

It’s your chance to meet the famous Betsy Bass as she hosts a gear swap at the Cirque de Pandemonium. Trade out gear or donate for New Players!

The circus, a time to come together, have fun, see new things, meet new people, and get new gear.

I, Betsy Bass, invite all of you to join for a gear swap! This is a no-charge swap. Tips and trades are not against the rules, but I ask that you do not charge for anything. Any negotiations are to be between you, the other person, and potentially a Rover for security.

Photos by Jacque Blake

Join me under the pavilion at 3pm with the gear you wish to swap. You may bring your own setup or use the existing tables. In the case of poor weather, we will move indoors. Find me directly for the new location.

This is a chance to bring old weapons, pouches, jackets, armor, and other bits of gear from people you once were (old characters you don’t play anymore) or from past versions of your kit, and give it all a new home.

As the gear swap comes to and end, you are welcome to collect your remaining gear and bring it home. If you do not want to take that gear back, or if you are feeling extra generous, I will be collecting unclaimed gear and adding those as donations to our New Resident Bin (new player). Those new to the town that complete a list of missions to familiarize themselves with the local ongoings will have the chance to choose from this bin. Your donations are much appreciated. Imagine the life that gear will live and the new stories it will tell!

Before you bring your gear, there are a few requirements for hygiene and safety purposes. Any gear that is found to not meet the following requirements is asked to be returned home or discarded:

  • Your gear must be clean. Please wash all shirts, pants, corsets, and other gear that can be machine or hand washed.

  • Your gear is safe to be used. Please no broken boffers, sharp accessories, or glass

  • No real blood is on your gear. We love fake blood, but please no real blood

Missions and Rewards for our New Players

Welcome all new players! Find new ways to get acquainted to Requiem and rewarded for doing so!

New into town? Where do you start? Who do you talk to? What are you meant to do?

Starting in June, when New Players step foot into town they will be given a list of missions to complete within their first three events. Completing those missions lets you choose a reward from our New Player Bin. These missions are sponsored by none other than Betsy Bass, the local journalist of the Fold.

By completing these missions, New Players will have a better understanding of the world they are living in, more connections with the people around town, and a few stories to bring back home.

A few examples of what those missions might be are:

  • Meet three family heads

  • Learn a new skill

  • Learn a fact about Requiem’s history

The missions will have an area for players to sign off as the New Players completes them.

A few examples of potential rewards (rewards vary based on availability):

  • A donated piece of gear

  • A weapon/armor card

  • Wagers (in game money)

We hope these New Player missions help you and your recruits find their way through Requiem!

May Schedule Update

Our May event has been CANCELLED. Join us for Community Day on May 2nd!

Hey Requiem,

With Community Day and Deathcon both right around the corner, we have decided to cancel our May event.

We understand this may not be optimal for everyone, but we want to encourage you to take that time to attend one of the other events mentioned.

Our goal is to make this year’s Community Day something bigger and more special than we ever have in the past. We want to put all our focus into giving back to our campsite, to our community, and in honor of Sasha. Please join us on May 2nd for our community day at Forestburg Scout Reservation.

Another part of our decision was in support of Deathcon. Last year, we had the honor of bringing back an old tradition. This year we want to pass on as much support as we can to the team in charge and encourage you all to take that extra time and make it out.

While the politics and zed will have to wait, this also gives us a little more time for something else we’re super excited for. The Circus. With no May event, our team can put their full creative focus on making this the most….. disturbingly fun circus you’ve ever attended.

Thank you for your understanding on this last minute change. We look forward to seeing you at Community Day on May 2nd!

Community Day Charity

How to donate, when to show up, and what you can win, all right here for our Community Day charity on May 2nd. Let’s raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in honor of Sasha

Photos by DRNY, Shai Ronnie, London Belli, & Allana Marie/Black Sky Photography

As many of you know, Sasha Gubanov was one of our directors here at DRNY. For over 10 years, they spent time screaming in the woods, fighting evil both in character and real life, and finding a second family. And now it’s time for us to come together as that community Sasha loved and help those going through similar stories, with maybe a little less screaming in the woods.

To honor Sasha, we’ve partnered with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to raise money to assist families going through their own cancer stories. We will be collecting donations leading up to and during community day. Join us at 6:30pm EST on May 2nd for our livestreamed event including prize raffles, crazy donation goals, and a special word from MSK. We’ve set our goal for $3,000. Can we do it?

The Livestream:

May 2nd at 6:30pm we will be going live from Forestburg Scout Reservation after we’ve finished a day of cleanup. Find us on Twitch to enjoy the stream (twitch account coming soon).

Livestream Schedule (All times in EST):

  • 6:30pm - Livestream kicks off

  • 6:40pm - A word from MSK

  • 6:50pm - An update at where we are and the goals we are intending to hit

  • 7:00pm - Let the craziness begin! Our directors will be performing a variety of crazy and silly stunts to help reach our donation goals. You’ll have to wait until the 2nd to see what each milestone will bring for our team!

  • 7:45pm - Prize time! The raffle will begin so be ready to win!

  • 8:00pm - Livestream wrap up and ending

How to Get Involved:

Click the button below to reach our Charity page with MSK. Here you can directly donate to the fundraiser beginning now. If you would like to be included in the raffle, please leave your name and contact information to be eligible to win. You may choose to remain anonymous. There will be prizes available for those not in attendance of Community Day as well, so be sure to join in!

For every $10 you donate, your name will be entered one time into the raffle. You may enter as many times as you would like.

What are the Prizes?

In Loving Memory of our Dear Friend Sasha Gubanov

In Loving Memory of our Dear Friend Sasha Gubanov

This month we lost someone that meant a great deal to us and the community. Sasha was more than just a Logistics director at Dystopia Rising New York, they were an inspiration to our guides & Players- with their creativity, their passion and their dedication to playing. To say they will be missed is an understatement.

We wanted to show our respects to their family who are not on social media- by creating a scrap book of this community's fondest memories and photos. Please see the link below if you would like to contribute!

Honor's Fall 2025: What You Need to Know

Find out what to expect at this upcoming Honor’s Fall

A Time Honored Tradition

Year after year the sirens go off and chaos descends upon the fold for the yearly ritual of Honor’s Fall, a time where all laws are put on hold for one night and everyone goes out to settle their

debts and grievances. Our Family Heads fight for power and control while the people of the fold fight for survival until the sunrise, presenting a head at The Wilted Rose to maintain or claim a spot at the table as one of Requiem’s Families

Here’s the Rules

At sunset, the Treaty of the Fold is suspended, and everyone in town can do as they will. By tradition, the Heads of the Patron Families of Requiem hunt each other to retain their position. While the activity is simple, we have several rules in play that the Families are expected to follow:

  • The sirens will go off around 8pm Saturday night once they go off all of the laws of the fold don’t apply.

  • All Families of Requiem are expected to Participate in Honor’s Fall

  • To clarify this means that Family Heads are expected to openly participate in Honor’s Fall undisguised and out in the open for a majority of the time in play.

  • Families looking to stake their claim at the table must claim another Family’s head and show up to The Wilted Rose at sunrise

  • Families can do whatever they can think of to keep their Family Head safe(within the spirit of Honor’s Fall) understand that violating the rules will have consequences

  • Heads may be claimed using the Master Criminal Influence Skill or the M.M. Necro-Info Head Jar. (Heads MUST be properly repped by the person claiming the head. If using the item it must be turned in and destroyed at the end of Honor’s Fall)

  • Once a Family Head is killed, they no longer need to participate in Honor’s Fall, but they still need to show up to The Wilted Rose at sunrise with a trophy

  • Sunrise counts around 6am on Sunday Morning

How To Enjoy Honor’s Fall

You have three options to enjoy the night of Honor’s Fall: political Character versus Character (CvC), political Character versus Enemies (CvE), or survival CvE:

  • If you’re heavily involved in Family politics, you can actively hunt (and be hunted by) other players. If you play a high-ranking member of a Family, you’ve opted into this already; other players may choose to get involved in the CvE aspects of Honor’s Fall.

  • If you want to get involved in the bloody politics of Honor’s Fall, but prefer less CvC, you can hunt and oppose the NPC Patron Families, who will all be out in force. Remember, they’re often as dangerous as other PCs.

  • If you want to stay out of the politics of Requiem, you can just try to survive the carnage, and help others to do so. The battles of Honor’s Fall are known for their collateral damage, so there are lots of challenges for you.

  • There is more to Honor’s Fall than just the battle, there’s politics, negotiations, back alley deals, and tons of other ways you can talk or bark your way through the people that come out of the woods.

Death is a Part of the Process

Death is a normal part of Dystopia Rising, arguably one of the best parts! Through death you can explore your characters flaws and goals or even breathe life into a character you may have been struggling with. While Honor’s Fall is advertised as a very lethal event for players the truth of the matter is that only the Family Heads, Tier 3s and those who opt in are facing a slightly higher level of danger. We understand that death can be scary for some and that others are very attached to the characters and stories they’ve made. However there are still many ways(Like the ones listed above)to get involved with the plot of the weekend. We’re always looking for more volunteers on the NPC side of the game during these kinds of events and are happy to have more hands to help make these families feel massive and real!

Fragments of Tomorrow Recap

Check out the September recap here!

September 2024 “Fragments of Tomorrow Recap

September’s gather came on the heels of an intense Honor’s Fall, presenting the town with several major problems after the dust settled. With the High Lord Executioner Essex Anastasia gone, the question on everyone’s mind is just who would rule the town. Without the Anastasias in power to uphold the laws of Requiem, what would that mean for those laws and for unifying the Families to keep the peace?

And then there is the Gravemind.

Requiem’s morgue and the attached Gravemind was just about destroyed by a catastrophic explosion during a confrontation inside the Mortis. During the altercation, family head Keres Molon died in the fiery eruption, causing liquid matter spewed up from the Mortis above ground. The ensuing disaster creating a Near Grave of molten necrotic matter that is toxic to all forms of life and highly irradiated. The Near Grave soon began sending out waves of powerful zed, each of them spreading rad poisoning and devastation in their wake.

The people of Requiem split their attention to all the tasks needed to clean up the town in the wake of Honor’s Fall. While many discussed how to address the political vacuum in the town, others tackled researching just how to clean up the toxic Near Grave and re-establish a functional morgue in the town. The researchers discovered mysterious black roses that, once fed, sprouted out of people’s bodies and could protect individuals from the Near Grave’s toxicity. Utilizing the roses, the researchers got into the destroyed morgue, all the while being bombarded with Compulsions of intense emotions of fear, sorrow, and other negative impressions.

The next day the town was bombarded by powerful zed as well as farmers from the Fold who, angry at the disruption of their lives by the recent politics, came to town to take on Requiem for their choices. They also talked about whole families and groups hearing grave whispers and disappearing. Meanwhile shadowy folk drew the researchers into the Near Grave, leading to the town organizing a group who would head into the morgue and try to seal off the damage in the local Mortis. Armed with more roses and a crew of fighters outside to take on the irradiated zed, the team inside the morgue sacrificed four of their own while fighting to heal the Mortis from the inside. The procedure ended with a huge portion of the radiation sealed away from the Mortis, a huge step towards healing the local gravemind and setting up the possibility of sinking a new morgue.

As the town took a deep breath at the successful Mortis mission, others kept their roses close, knowing the battle for (or against?) the Requiem Mortis was far from over. Because the radiation, while greatly reduced, is still leaking into the local Mortis, the families of the Fold are still sleepwalking off into the dark, and the Mortis is still presenting an imminent danger to the town. And all of this in the face of the next gather’s annual tradition: the Feast of Flesh. But without the power structure in Requiem solidified yet and nobody having seen Zodiac in a long time, what will the Feast of Flesh look like in this disruptive time? Only the come of the next gather will show just how many pounds of flesh it will take to heal Requiem once again.

The Torture Shack is Back

Learn about the Torture Shack here

With October here once again we come upon the fold tradition of the Feast of Flesh, a macabre ritual of offering your own carved flesh upon the doors of your home so that what lurks in the dark will eat it instead of you and your family and the Zodiac Collective gets the flesh they need to keep doing their job within the fold. This year Leo continues that tradition in their own twisted way…will you step up to collect your pound of flesh?

The Vivisection (also colloquially called the torture shack) is a fully immersive attack on the senses that pushes the limits of not just the characters, but players as well. The experience is designed to be unsettling, loud, disorienting, and gross while adhering to an opt in and opt out safety standard.

Players can expect to experience:

  • Horrific Smells

  • Gratuitous amounts of blood

  • Flashing lights

  • Smoke and Fog

  • Eating potentially gross food

  • And many more gross things

While the experience is meant to push your limits we take safety and comfort seriously and utilize a consent form that allows players to opt out of specific ingredients of the module as well as potential triggers. In addition, safe words are used during the experience to allow players to end the scene immediately with no negative detriment to the character for bowing out.

Director Changes

The DRNY team is changing and we will have new directors soon!

Thanks for the Memories

When Dystopia Rising New York chose its new directors 2019 we were brought into a new world of terror, politics, and all things that make Requiem the home it is today by Tony and Kristina. Together, they were able to share with us their passion for the game and our community. Building stories, creating characters, and scaring the bejeebus out of us.

But like all amazing stories, they have to end at some point.

Tony and Kristina will be moving on from their time here at Dystopia Rising New York. Honor’s Fall in August of 2024 will be their last event as Directors for our team, giving you one last time to be followed into the dark by a Tony shape or hear mysterious whispers in Kristina’s voice. I recommend taking full advantage of those opportunities while you still have the chance!

Thank you Tony and Kristina for creating what you have for us.

New Endings leave room for New Beginnings

New changes bring about new opportunities, new stories, new characters, and so much more! We are extremely excited to introduce to you our new story director team, Shoshana Kessock and Alessandro Manchisi!

These two amazing individuals have shared so many stories with us over the years and their love of the game has been an inspiration to others. When searching for who could carry the mantle next, it was hard to find a reason to not bring them on.

Honor’s Fall will give us a small taste of what they can do before the torch has been fully passed for our September event. We hope you’re looking forward to what they create just as much as we are.

Tell us in the comments what you loved most about Kristina and Tony’s time as story directors. Let us know what you look forward to seeing from Shoshana and Alex!

SPECIAL MOD: THE HAZE RAID

Witness the return of another one of our special sign up mods!

Take the fight to the Dead Six and the growing tribes of raiders. Sign up with a group of friends and take turns competing against each other as you hop into a ride and run smash and grab raids to disrupt operations and steal supplies and research materials! Hit enough camps and you might just draw out one of their leaders!

What's Happening:

The Dead Six, a group thought to be some kind of raiders, have been wreaking havoc on Requiem and The Fold. Their unprecedented ability to unite the typical raider clans has interrupted supply lines, destroyed outposts, and killed members of The Fold. Kidnappings and reports of brainwashing seem to be connected to a unique strain of Bad Brain spreading through the town causing outbursts of violence.

What are We Doing About It:

Thanks to the efforts of the people of Requiem and the Volkov Family, we've identified key supply camps. It’s time to give the raiders a taste of their own medicine. Load up in a ride and get dropped off at a series of camps to take back stolen supplies, disrupt operations and try and assassinate their leaders before you lose the element of surprise! The more crates you steal the more loot you get!

How We Doing It:

Sign up at the post office after game on with your friends. Meet up near the Wilted Rose for your shot at the Haze Raid. In classic special mod fashion groups will get split into two squads where you get to take turns playing the raider opposition. See who can make off with the most loot! Get out there and beat up your friends!

Now, you ready to Req and Raid? Join us May 10-12 for our HAZE RAID special mod! Saturday 11-1 for New Blood friendly runs! (150 and below recommended) Saturday 3-8 will scale up in difficulty as the day goes on!

Enjoy your Bad Brain!
