Prisoners & Sympathizers... What You Need To Know
As Dogs of War approaches, we’ve had two significant sets of action requests… first from people who wish to start the game captured and the second from people who want to fight against the town on the side of the enemy. Here’s some information if this applies to you.
As Dogs of War approaches, we’ve had two significant sets of action requests… first from people who wish to start the game captured and the second from people who want to fight against the town on the side of the enemy. Here’s some information if this applies to you.
Prisoners
Due to the significant number of requests to start the event as a prisoner of the Nostra, we will not require players to coordinate with us prior to the event to do so. If you wish to start play as a prisoner, all you need to do is join us for a special mod at game on. We’ll release details closer to the event. A couple of key notes:
Everyone playing as a prisoner will have the same experience; we have too many players to come up with custom mods for all of you.
If you’re on the first NPC shift, you will not be able to participate in the mod, but we encourage you to re-enter play having just “escaped.”
Sympathizers
Due to the political situation in Requiem, some players may wish to fight on the side of the enemy. This is allowed, but heed this warning: if you fight on the side of the enemy, you’re immediately flagged for CvC. You should expect that other players will try to kill your character and that there may be long-term repercussions. This is a “no holds barred” option: do not expect them to negotiate with you out-of-character, or that they’ll give you a “cool scene.” While we encourage all our players to use these practices and consider the feelings of all those involved, the significance of siding with the enemy means that you’re basically saying “come at me.” Do not expect the staff to try to mitigate the negative consequences of this decision. Further, expect there to be long-term consequences, even if deadly CvC doesn’t occur. If you choose to fight for the Nostra, other characters will almost certainly hold it against you after the war is over.
With that in mind, here are some key points if you want to fight against the forces of Requiem.
Spoiler: Your side is going to lose. At the end of the day, the Nostra will be beaten. This game is not a setting reset, so don’t be surprised when the majority of players win the battle.
You have to observe all CvC rules, most importantly, if you engage in CvC, you must remain in character for four hours afterwards.
Because of this, you can’t join an NPC shift as your character (as our NPCs regularly go out of character between mods).
That said, if you want to fight on behalf of the Nostra, you’re approved to do so. However, Lupa is a smart adversary, and players have been trying the “I’m going to infiltrate the other side as a double agent” since Dystopia Rising began. Because of this, she’s not going to give you special intel. Your best bet is to look for battles and then side with the NPCs.

Full Immersion (Friday Night) Questions
Do I set up at the cabins or at the A-Frame?
When you get to site, set up your cabin like you normally would. Then, grab the stuff you want with you Friday night and head to the A-Frame. You’ll want:
A water bottle.
A flashlight.
The food you want to eat Friday night and Saturday morning (unless you get the meal plan).
All the stuff you want to use in character.
Your bedding for Friday night (we strongly suggest a sleeping bag).
Anything you need to have on you (like medications).
You’ll have a chance to drop a bag off if you don’t want to be carrying your bedding around all day… but don’t expect access to that bag until 2 am.
What’s the A-Frame?
No one asked this question, but it’s important to understand what we mean by “the A-Frame.” The A-Frame is a building on site just under a mile from the rest of the camp: the game will start at the A-Frame. As you progress Friday night, you’ll fight along the road the campsites, where we’ll have sleeping areas set up. Eventually, you’ll get to the part of the camp we normally use.
There are two other buildings we reference:
The Wilted Rose: this is the building on the outskirts of Requiem, essentially the furthest building we normally use (and thus the closest to the A-Frame). Out-of-game, you can expect to retake the Wilted Rose early Saturday morning before you go to bed.
The Great Hall: This is the main building where most activity normally occurs in Requiem. It will be out of character for most of the weekend.
Are we expected to stay at the A-Frame for the whole event?
Nope, and we recommend you don’t set up anything too elaborate at the A-Frame. It’s the starting point, and you’ll probably be constantly moving forward throughout Friday night. Your sleeping areas are actually closer to the Wilted Rose than the A-Frame… expect to walk at least a half mile on Friday night if you are Full Immersion.
Do I need to bring my own tent or camping supplies?
You do not need to bring your own tent or cot, those will be provided. We’re not providing any bedding or other supplies, so you would have to bring those.
How do I get my stuff to the A-Frame or tents?
You have two options:
First, you can bring everything with you to the A-Frame before the beginning of the game. We’ll be shuttling you and your stuff out there ourselves (you will NOT be driving to the A-Frame yourselves) so please don’t bring more than you can carry. If you bring it to the A-Frame, you’ll be carrying it all night, but also always have access to it.
Second, around 2 am on Saturday, we’ll have a “supply drop.” If you have a bag you don’t want to carry, we’ll drop it off at 2 am, near the sleeping areas. The supply drop is likely a half mile (at least) from the A-Frame.
Sounds intense… what if I’m exhausted and can’t walk a half mile?
We’ll be running a shuttle every hour to bring players back to the out-of-character area of the camp. This brings you back to sleep, out-of-character, in the cabins.
Will there be drinking water out at the A-Frame?
Yes, as well as at every campsite along the way. There are also latrines near the campsites.
Will there be food storage out at the A-Frame?
No. If you want food at the A-Frame, you have to carry it with you or do the meal plan.
However… read on…
You’re probably only going to be at the A-Frame for a couple of hours. If you have dinner Friday night, you won’t miss a meal. By Saturday morning, we’ll be closer to the Great Hall than we are to the A-Frame, so store food at the Great Hall.
You can always go to the Great Hall out-of-character to eat, and by early Saturday morning, this won’t be any more difficult than during our regular games.
Will there be coffee out at the A-Frame?
No.
Will there be electricity out at the A-Frame?
Yes, but not for you. Do not expect to charge phones, plug in your hot plates, or anything similar.
Wow, that’s a lot of A-Frame questions! Maybe you can give us an overview of what to expect at the A-Frame?
Friday, when you arrive, you’ll set up your cabins and grab your stuff for Friday night. You’ll have a chance to do a bag drop… anything in those bags will be unavailable until around 2 am.
We’ll shuttle everyone (both Full Immersion and General Admission) up to the A-Frame to start the game (shuttle schedule will be released before the event). If you’re Full Immersion, that’s it… once the game starts, you’ll be constantly moving forward until you reach the campsites, which are closer to the Wilted Rose. If you’re General Admission (or decide full immersion isn’t for you) you can grab a shuttle back to the out-of-character areas to sleep.
When you go to bed on Friday, you’ll be close to the Wilted Rose, so don’t plan on going back to the A-Frame.
We’ll have meal plan meals available for pick-up at the A-Frame, but you should expect to carry any other food with you for the duration of Friday night.
Where will we set up Saturday morning?
Saturday morning, you’ll have control of the Wilted Rose. You’ll have power and water nearby, and your breakfasts for the meal plan will be delivered there. The Wilted Rose is close enough to the rest of the site for you all to set up there… if you want to drop equipment off in the Wilted Rose before the game (in the back room) you may.
When can we expect access to the Great Hall?
You’ll have out-of-character access to the Great Hall throughout the event, but you won’t have in-character access to it until Saturday night.
General Questions
What are the sleeping arrangements on site?
Apart from the tents on Friday night, we have plenty of bunks in cabins throughout the site.
Is there a way to opt-out of night raids or sleep out-of-character?
There is no way to opt-out of night raids. Generally, we have no complaints about night raids because we try to be considerate of your needs, but there is no “opt-out” policy. We do have med sleep for people who need to sleep out-of-character for safety reasons.
However, anyone not sleeping in tents Friday night will be sleeping out-of-character. On Sunday morning, our last NPC shift ends at 3 am (and we don’t have NPC shifts for the rest of the event). You have minimal risk if you’re not sleeping in-character Friday night of being woken up by a raid.
How will the out-of-character spaces work?
This is extremely important because most of the site will be out-of-character for most of the game.
We will clearly mark the “Forward Edge of Battle Area” (FEBA). Anything beyond this line (which will move throughout the game) will be out-of-character. This area is for nutrition, recovery, and sleeping… it is not a social area. When you are in this area, we’re expecting you to go to one of four places:
Your cabin because you’re going directly to sleep or rest quietly. When you wake up, you’ll leave and return to play.
The Great Hall to eat food, then leave and return to play.
The showers to bathe, then leave and return to play.
To ops to see the staff because there is something else you need.
If we see you “hanging out” out of character, we’ll ask you to either go back in-character or head to ops for an NPC shift.
Aside from the meal plan, how does one get food at game? Is there a kitchen where we can heat-up canned meals? Do people sell food?
There are microwaves in the Great Hall. You do not have kitchen access there, but you can heat up food. On Friday night, it’ll be a haul to get to the Great Hall (over a mile). After that, it’ll be more accessible.
You can store food in the refrigerator at the Great Hall. Please use the one on the left.
We will almost certainly have food vendors, but food vendors are not responsible for your nutrition. The way you get food at game is you buy it from a grocery store and bring it to game, understanding you won’t have kitchen access.
Are there times you need extra NPCs?
YES! We likely need NPCs during the following times:
Friday, 10 pm to Saturday 2 am.
Saturday, 9 am to Saturday 1 pm.
Saturday, 5 pm to 11 pm.
In particular, we need volunteers from 7 pm to 9 pm on Saturday. We’ll take everyone who wants to fight their friends.
Will there be spiders?
In character? No. Out of character? It’s the woods, you’ll likely find spiders in dark places, like the latrines.

The Requiem Go-Bag
The Requiem Go-Bag is a new local item that you will receive if you purchase an Opt-Out, Hard-Core, or Full Immersion Ticket…
Requiem Go-Bag
Gizmo

Expiration: 6 Months
Physrep: A backpack with a red “X” on it. Cannot function as a supply bag.

PFA (Requiem Survivor) - After your Gravemind scene, you may choose to re-enter play within 5 feet of the Go-Bag, with full Body, full Mind, and no additional fracture. Breaks after use and can’t be repaired.
Requiem Survivor is a new local “Tag” we’ll add to your sheets if you attend certain events (like our Premiere event or Honor’s Fall). It will interact like a PFA with local items.
Where Will I Sleep?
The ticket you buy determines where you’ll sleep Friday night:
If you buy an Opt-Out ticket… you can sleep anywhere you want.
If you buy a Hard-Core or Full Immersion ticket… you’re sleeping in tents out past the Morgue.
If you buy a General Admission ticket… you’re sleeping out-of-character in our normal areas. If there’s space available, you can sleep in the tents if you choose to.
Checking Into The Database
Please review this section carefully.
If you get an Opt-Out or General Admission ticket, you can check into the database normally.

“Echoes of the Common Fall” is a set of three modules, each of which will be run and designed by the individual chapters with a common narrative. Focused on Jonesing and Faith, the modules examine an ancient religion that existed just after the Fall, and introduces Nuclear Glass, a new local scrap that can be used in all three chapters. Each module will also introduce part of a new Benediction usable at all three chapters - if you bring your copy from one chapter to another you not only unlock new uses of the Benediction, but if you secure the full blueprint, you’ll get three different PFA abilities.
The weather is warming, chapters are re-opening, and Spring is a great season to send your character on a DR roadtrip to the Oldest Port, Luxury and Requiem!
New Player Drive
This month, Dystopia Rising New York welcomes fresh faces with our first New Player Drive since our return to live play. We hope to make this a regular event and want to make sure all players… both our brand-new players and our regulars can enjoy these benefits. Please read this post carefully, because there is something for everyone!

New Player Tickets
In May, we’re offering a special for any new player: a reduced priced ticket, with the option for 2 extra Build for free. These New Player Tickets will also get full Early Bird privileges; it doesn’t matter when they buy their ticket. Finally, we’re offering a special: $10 off all New Player tickets this month.
But what about all our other new players who’ve joined in the last year? We’re including you in this deal. All local players who joined since May 2022 will receive a code to receive +2 additional Build for free. You must purchase an Early Bird ticket to do so (Early Bird goes on sale Thursday at 8 pm).
Referral Benefits
Since most new players come through referrals, we’re doing an additional benefit for anyone who brings a new player in May. If you bring a new player, we’ll give you one game of buyback (with full Build) when they arrive. You must be eligible for buyback (i.e. you have to have missed a game and not already bought it back), but this means a new player is worth at least 5 Build to anyone eligible. You can only receive this benefit once, no matter how many players you bring (but you still get the referral build as normal).
What if you’ve been bringing your friends this entire time? If you have referred a player in the last six months (since November), and both you and that player buy an Early Bird ticket, we’ll give you the buyback right away.
New Blood Activities
In May, we’ll emphasize the new player experience throughout the event. Our story team will increase focus on players with under 100 Build, and we’ll offer incentives to players to help out as well (check out our Early Bird items tomorrow for an example).
May’s the perfect time to introduce someone to DRNY… who will you bring?
So That Just Happened (April Recap)
All the people of Requiem arrived knowing that something was wrong, although no one knew exactly what would happen. As they survived the gathering, the potential disasters facing Requiem became increasingly clear: beset by enemies, strapped for resources, and with their morgue failing, Spring brought deadly challenges to the Fold.
What Happened
The weekend began quietly as the survivors gathered in the Great Hall. Essex, the High Lord Executioner, had called a meeting of all the Family Heads, and all thirteen Families of Requiem attended, along with Elizabeth Bathory, representing the Semper Morts who had been promised support. They revealed their numbers; over 1,500 in need of food, shelter, and basic infrastructure, and the High Lord Executioner agreed to uphold the promises of his predecessor, with the help of all the people of Requiem. Rather than enact a tax, the Family Heads agreed to a different solution: a three-month tariff on all goods that go through the Post Office - resources, crafted items, and trading. While the Warren Collective agreed to cover the New Bloods of the town, many wondered what effect this would have on the Fold as it prepared for open conflict with its enemies.
On Saturday, that open conflict arrived. Reports of enemy encampments reached the people of Requiem, and they sent expeditions throughout the day to find them. They found the Nostras - a mysterious force composed of the survivors of banished families - entrenched on the high ground of the various mountains around Requiem. Throughout the day, Requiem launched attacks, fighting inch by bloody inch uphill against the Nostras, learning that their forces were ready to bring war to the Fold and overthrow the Anastasia Dynasty. It won’t be long before these defensive positions allow them to launch large-scale attacks on the Fold and the town of Requiem itself.
To make the situation even more dire, a shipment of materials from the Molon Collective meant to reinforce the failing morgue, was intercepted and destroyed before it could reach its destination. With the health of the morgue collapsing, the matter was complicated by the arrival of the Sin-Eater, Argor. The mysterious cult leader had apparently consumed too many fractures with his sin-eating ritual, resulting in him turning his powers against the townsfolk, causing the death of a Family Head before his supporters managed to cleanse him in the space in the Mortis. While the sins he’s carried have been passed on, who knows what the episode did to a morgue in urgent need of repairs?
These are just the most significant calamities to beset the town as Requiem finds itself preparing for even more misfortune.
Announcements
Tickets go on sale Thursday for our May Event, Mouth of the Wolf. What will happen when the Nostras finally decide to make their move?
May will also feature a new player drive and a special surprise we’ll announce tomorrow. Stay tuned for more!

New or Updated Information
Applications for our Trained Survivors - 12 hours of NPC for our June event - are open through Tuesday! Also apply if you need special accommodations.
It’s tick season! Check yourself for ticks!
We’ve had complaints about wrap shots… remember: a wrap shot is when a player’s hand (not their weapon) reaches past the other player or their shield. It’s legal to angle a weapon to tap someone from behind a shield, it’s not legal (for safety reasons) to reach past a shield.
Help us out: put away the cell phones whenever another player can see you. This includes in your bunks… we’ve walked in cabins to see four people on their cell phones at the same time/ We work hard to bring you as much immersion as we can - please help us by being as discrete as you can if you have to check your phone.
Recurring Information
Strain Variants. The following Strain Variants are in play this month: Apostate Ascensorites, Carver Retrogrades, Dynasty Yorkers and Warband Tainted (all Ascensorites, Retrogrades, Yorkers and Tainted gain the mechanics for the weekend).
Remember, if you see an NPC with a purple glow stick, you only see them if you have a fracture, Bad Brain, or are part of a specific plot.
Standard Information
Dystopia Rising includes stories about violence, torture, drugs and many other difficult things, but there’s one topic we don’t include in stories: sexual assault. It is never appropriate to include the topic of sexual assault in your role-play or stories. If encountered, please inform a guide so that we can take action.
If you are in the woods and can’t tell if a nearby sound is an animal or not, call out “Are you an animal?” If you hear someone calling that, you must respond “I am not an animal.” If you get no response, make yourself as big as possible and back away slowly.
Dogs of War - Trained Survivor and Accommodation Pre-Sale
Prior to Early Bird tickets for our June Premiere event, Dogs of War, going on sale next month, we need to identify two groups of players who will attend: our “Dirty Dozen” of Trained Survivors and players requiring reasonable accommodations. Please review this announcement for information on these pre-sales, and if interested, use the application form below.
Applications will close Monday, April 17. Trained Survivors will be announced by Wednesday, April 19, and accommodations will be made as they come in.
Trained Survivors
During Dogs of War, we will have a small group of a dozen players who do twelve hours of NPC work. This group, called the Trained Survivors, will be selected for their real-world abilities to perform as a unit, with preference being given to those with military experience. They will perform a full range of NPC duties, including filling out large groups as grunts in major battles, performing as roaming threats, or operating as enemy troops behind enemy lines. Please realize when signing up to be a Trained Survivor, you will be used wherever we need NPC support.
You can expect to perform three 4-hour NPC shifts:
Friday, 2300 to Saturday, 0300
Saturday, 1000 to 1400
Saturday, 1700 to 2100
However, we expect you to show up 30 minutes early and, if need be, stay up to 30 minutes late: realize that your character will be absent for much of the Battle of Requiem.
You will receive several benefits if picked, including a complimentary ticket with full Build, as well as the Early Bird, Hard-Core and Survivors Bag perks described in the Tickets announcement. In addition, you will be given intelligence to bring back between your NPC shifts, to represent your characters performing “behind enemy lines.” The quality of the intelligence will depend on the personal sacrifice your characters are willing to make, in terms of items, Mind, Body, and even (if you choose) Infection loss.
When applying to be a Trained Survivor, please be sure to tell us about any military experience you have, including relevant training and specialties. While we will give preference to those with military experience, we’re also looking for people with other real-world abilities that might benefit the team (even if it’s just “I’m really good at cardio.”)
Important Note: You can expect to hike several miles per shift, including some running and moving through the woods in the dark while practicing light discipline. We will also ask you to bring your own weapons (please do not plan on using a shield).
Accommodations
With an unusual NPC structure, sleeping in austere conditions, and the physical demands of this particular event, we want to make sure we make every effort to meet the needs of our players. If you have a medical requirement, physical or mental disability, or other condition that requires a reasonable accommodation, please let us know during pre-sale.
Our primary method of accommodation will be matching you with an appropriate ticket (typically Early Bird General Admission, but we will also consider other tickets by request). We will also work with you to place you on an appropriate NPC shift. Please do not use the pre-sale simply for the purposes of getting the “right” NPC shift; these are for accommodations outside those necessary at a regular Dystopia Rising event.
If we match you with a ticket and/or NPC shift, we will check you into the database prior to the Early Bird, and mark you unpaid. You will then be able to purchase a ticket normally. We will not reserve Opt-Out tickets or Hard-Core tickets through this process.
Important Note: You do NOT need to apply for Accommodations for Med Sleep. Please purchase a General Admission ticket and email us to be added to Med Sleep.
Dogs of War OOC Schedule
As we approach our pre-sale period for Dogs of War, our June Premiere (applications for Trained Survivors and Accommodations go out tomorrow), we want to know what to expect, out-of-character, with regards to the schedule. Remember, most of the campsite will be out-of-character Friday night, with in-character activities limited to the area near the A-Frame.

Key Areas Of Camp
Below is a map of Requiem (Forestburg Scout Reservation) with several areas highlighted. From top to bottom, the pins represent the Great Hall, the Morgue, and the A-Frame
The red area will be in-character during Phase 1. This should last from Friday night to Saturday morning - during this phase, you start at the A-Frame and will fight up until the edge of town. It includes all the tent sites, where players enjoying the Full Immersion experience will sleep.
The orange area will be in-character during Phase 2. It includes most of the areas normally used during live events, excluding ops and some special event mods. This phase lasts from Saturday morning until the climactic battle, where you retake the cabins and other buildings of Requiem. The out-of-character sleeping areas from Friday night will become in-character sleeping areas for Saturday night.
The yellow area will be out-of-character until after the climactic battle. It includes Ops and Med Sleep, which will remain out-of-character (as per our normal events).
Meals, Facilities and Transportation
We will have a meal plan available for the event, and all meals will be available in the red zone during Phase 1 (this likely includes Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast). Breakfast on Saturday will also be available in the Great Hall for those who opted out of Full Immersion. After Phase 1, all meals will be served in the Great Hall.
We have latrines with running water in the Red Zone but no showers. Do not expect to have electricity available for personal devices (there are outlets at the A-Frame, but not enough for everyone to charge their phones).
Throughout Friday evening and again on Saturday morning, we will shuttle people between zones. Expect more details on transportation to be released at a later date.

Our June Premiere Event, Dogs of War, is a unique event with special NPC requirements to simulate large battles and a need to accommodate different levels of immersion. As such, we’re creating a unique ticket structure. Please review this announcement thoroughly to select the ticket right for you.
Pre-Sales
Prior to the event, we will open up applications for two ticket types: Trained Survivors and Accommodations. An announcement will go out on Friday, April 7, along with a form, so that players can apply for these tickets.
Trained Survivor tickets are primarily reserved for former military members and other individuals with applicable training to a larp warfare scenario. We’re selecting 12 applicants to be part of a special NPC team to support combat-intensive scenes. If selected, you will do a total of 12 hours of NPC work at predetermined times. You also will receive a comped ticket with full Build at no cost, as well as all Perks, including Early Bird, Hard-Core, and Survival Bag (see below).
Accommodations are for people who need a reasonable accommodation to participate. This is primarily for people with medical conditions or disabilities other than those that require med sleep (med sleep does not need to apply for accommodations). You will go through a special process to make sure we get you the ticket appropriate to your needs, with whatever perks would normally apply to those tickets. Note: Accommodations will not be used to reserve NPC Opt-Out Tickets.
Early-Bird Sales
On Tuesday, May 2nd, Early Bird tickets will go on sale for four days, through Friday, May 5. This will be your only opportunity to buy Opt-Out, Hard-Core, and Early Bird tickets. Multiple types of these tickets will be available, so please select the one that works best for you:
Opt-Out. We will have 16 Opt-Out tickets available for $100. These tickets will receive the Early Bird and Survival Bag perks and are eligible for Do Work Get Paid (see below). Opt-Out Tickets can choose whether they want the Full Immersion or General Admission experience without coordination.
Hard-Core. We will have 25 Hard-Core tickets available for $45. These tickets will receive the Early Bird, Hard-Core, Survival Bag, and Do Work Get Paid perks (see below). You have to sign up for 8 hours of NPC during our Prime-Time Hours (see below) and opt into full immersion by sleeping in tents near the A-Frame Friday night.
Full Immersion. We will have 80 Full Immersion tickets available for $65. These tickets will receive the Early Bird and Survival Bag perks and are eligible for Do Work Get Paid (see below). You have to sign up for 4 hours of NPC during our Prime-Time Hours and opt into sleeping in tents near the A-Frame Friday night.
General Admission. We will have an unlimited number of General Admission tickets available for $65. These tickets will receive the Early Bird perk and are eligible for Do Work Get Paid (see below). These tickets have no restrictions on which NPC shifts they choose, or where they sleep. Note: if you do not sleep in tents by the A-Frame, you must sleep Out-Of-Character Friday night.
General Admission Sales
After the Early Bird closes, we will re-open General Admission tickets on Thursday, May 19th. No perks will be available. At our discretion, we may include Full Immersion tickets with the Survival Bag perk.
NPC Shifts
We will have two types of NPC shifts available for this event. Prime-Time shifts are when we have combat-intensive modules: expect to fight during these NPC shifts. Standard shifts will have a normal mix of combat and role-play modules. If you select Hard-Core or Full-Immersion, all your NPC shifts must be Prime-Time shifts (if you’re a Trained Survivor, you can expect all your time to be during the Prime-Time shifts).
Guides
Guides may select either a Hard-Core, Full Immersion, or General Admission ticket. Their discount will apply normally and they will perform a guide shift as appropriate. Guides who select the Hard-Core option can expect to perform as an NPC for the remaining four hours of their shift.
Perks
With additional NPC work and more complicated options, we’ve come up with several kinds of perks to reward you:
Early Bird - All Early Bird participants will receive the normal benefits (priority when we expand NPC shifts, a bunk slip your friends can use to save a bed, and a special Early Bird Item and ZOM). In addition, all Early Bird participants will receive a free National Print, released at this event.
Hard Core - Hard-Core tickets will receive a Festering Crystal and 100 CAPs (in addition to the Early Bird, Survival Bag, and Do Work Get Paid perks).
Survival Bag - Any individual who buys a Full Immersion Ticket will receive a local item card: a Requiem Go-Bag.
Do Work Get Paid - Players receive the following voucher: Turn in for 1 free Tier 1 Family Item from any NPC Family OR voucher counts as 20 Wagers towards the cost of a Family Item you are eligible to purchase. Expires at the end of the event. Three groups get the Do Work Get Paid perk:
Hard-Core ticket holders.
Players who have purchased a ticket for the DRNY May Event prior to purchasing their Dogs of War ticket.
Players who will be traveling more than 300 miles to the event.

That’s a lot of information, so here’s a table of tickets, when they’re sold, the cost, and the perks associated with them.

Special Event Mod: Hell's Hill
Our April event, GRINDHOUSE! sees the return of Dystopia Rising New York’s Special Event mods, as we bring you Hell’s Hill… a literal hill to die on. While players who’ve been coming to Requiem over the past year might remember our previous Special Events (the Train Job, Jones Town, and the Hot Zone), we wanted to recap how Special Events work, and introduce you to Hell’s Hill.

While players who’ve been coming to Requiem over the past year might remember our previous Special Events (the Train Job, Jones Town, and the Hot Zone), we wanted to recap how Special Events work, and introduce you to Hell’s Hill.
What Is a Special Event
A Special Event is a featured module that we run repeatedly throughout the day on Saturday, without NPC support. Instead, small groups of 10 to 12 people sign up at a time, and split into two teams. One team assumes the role of the antagonists and fights their friends’ characters, and then the two teams switch. These mods usually occur away from the rest of the play area, where we’ve set up special sites unique to the challenge of the special event.
You can read more about Special Events here, and we’re adding a new feature:
Our Saturday noon run will be restricted to characters with less than 100 Build, with challenges scaled to our New Bloods.
What Is Hell’s Hill
Based on war movies where troops have to fight their way up a hill under a hail of gunfire, Hell’s Hill is your introduction to the sort of combat mods you’ll see during Dogs of War, our June Premiere event. In addition to testing mechanics such as artillery strikes, we’ll have some special items you’ll be able to use on the Hill.
For months, we’ve been dropping information about the Nostras, and now, everyone will have chance to fight them as you storm one of their forward outposts. If you’re successful, you can capture and interrogate a few of their officers for more intel… some of which will be very valuable come June.
When you show up, be prepared to fight desperately up on of the hills of Requiem, under constant gunfire and assault. Players with mobility issues should feel welcome to join; we have a plan to help you out on that hill. And for our Early Bird players, you’ll get to use a special ZoM:
Not On This Hill
Once per hour while in Bleedout during the Special Event Mod, spend 5 mind and take up to five steps, then stabilize. If you are behind cover, you are immune to damage from ranged weapons as long as you don’t leave your hiding spot.
New Items For April
The following are available for a limited time only from the Post Office.

Trade Compacts & The Night Market
In the Northeast, we have the good fortune to have several different games all within driving distance (this summer, it will hopefully be at least five - MA, NJ, NY, PA, and VA). In addition, we’ve been blessed with travelers from Texas, who come up regularly, adding immensely to our events. Travel is what makes this network unique and brings our brand of the apocalypse to life. Also, you all like to bring loot.

In addition, we’ve been blessed with travelers from Texas, who come up regularly, adding immensely to our events. Travel is what makes this network unique and brings our brand of the apocalypse to life.
Also, you all like to bring loot.
So we’re releasing a plot kit where you can use local item cards from other chapters (and even purchase items from other chapters at our Post Office). Trade Compacts & the Night Market is an active Dystopia Rising New York plot kit where players may submit Action Requests and use items from other chapters. The best part: once someone opens up an item for use (or even procurement), anyone can use it at our events!
How It Works
After reading the plot kit, you’ll understand that you can set up either a Trade Compact (using Master Financial Influence) or a Night Market smuggling route (using Master Criminal Influence) to use other chapters' local items. If you succeed in setting up a Trade Compact, you can even procure the items in Requiem (such as purchasing off of another chapter’s buy lists). You might need some help from a master criminal or financier, but once you succeed, these items are in play at DRNY.
If you’re a Texas player, this is replacing the San Saba Trade Agreement with Requiem, which expired in January. If you’re a visitor and want to reopen particular buy lists with us, please submit an Action Request.
Things To Remember
Night Market routes will be easier to establish than Trade Compacts since Trade Compacts let you get the items at will.
You need someone with either Master Criminal Influence or Master Financial Influence to be part of the Action Request.
We may or may not have an actual mod for you at game, at the staff’s discretion. Otherwise, we’ll resolve the Action Request via email.
When you make the request, realize we might approve it, deny it, or approve it with restrictions. If we approve it, we’ll put it on the website (along with any restrictions).
As a policy, we will not approve any Trade Compacts without the permission of the other chapter.
We’ve made this plotkit available for use to other chapters… if they implement it, you can request to use your Requiem items in their games!
That Just Happened - March Recap
Dystopia Rising New York’s March event, “Hunger and Frost,” began with the undead. An endless horde of shamblers and bursters stumbled through Requiem, first attacking a group of returning survivors making their way through town and then pouring through the streets into the Great Hall.
What are half-dozen executions between friends? But we’ll get to that.
Dystopia Rising New York’s March event, “Hunger and Frost,” began with the undead. An endless horde of shamblers and bursters stumbled through Requiem, first attacking a group of returning survivors making their way through town and then pouring through the streets into the Great Hall. Perhaps they were drawn to the upcoming Pallor Mortis ritual, as a Graverobber prepared to take four individuals and their anchors through the Gravemind to reclaim their lost infection. The town came together Friday night to defend the morgue as they did, and though the fight lasted for over an hour, none fell to the masses of shambling dead that night. The town went to bed Friday, mostly satisfied that their town was secure.
There was, however, one problem that most did not know: Essex Anastasia, the High Lord Executioner, had been conspicuously absent Friday night. It wasn’t until Saturday morning that rumors swirled about the reasons for this; unconfirmed reports suggested he had been kidnapped by Lupa, leader of the mysterious Nostras. She and her followers have been linked to the mysterious signals found throughout the woods over the last few months, and some whisper they were behind at least one nighttime raid, or even what happened at the Hot Zone. While these rumors remain unconfirmed, one thing seems likely: that the Nostras have returned to the Fold, looking to reclaim something they lost.
Despite this looming threat, the High Lord Executioner returned Saturday and joined with the Families of the Fold to address the immediate problem at hand: the suffering of the Bathory Sempers. Several years ago, when they first emerged from the sealed research facility at the Falls, they had struck a deal to be supported by Anton Anastasia. Unfortunately, Anton did not keep the rest of the Fold informed on the specifics of the deal, and when he disappeared after last Honor’s Fall, the Bathory found themselves in dire need of both supplies and infrastructure. The Heads of the 13 Families met with their leader, Liz Bathory, and agreed to renew the shipments and provide assistance, but the Bathory have already begun to feel the effects. This includes the presence of Ravagers, frightening killers who have succumbed to a permanent blood lust, and who took the life of at least one denizen of the Fold this past weekend. While the Bathory received a large shipment at the end of the gathering, one can expect them to require further support; which will likely mean some sort of taxation.
Finally, the trade ended not with death at the hands of zed or raiders, or even starvation or cold, but in the form of execution. Earlier in the day, a group of Final Knights performed a consecration ritual outside, a violation of the Treaty of the Fold, and were spotted by numerous members of the town, including at least one Family Head. In response, the High Lord Executioner ordered a half-dozen of them to stand before him and answer for their crimes. While two of the offenders were spared by offering a Memento in exchange for their lives, shortly after midnight, the remaining four were executed by Essex Anastasia as punishment for breaking one of the few laws Requiem has.
An execution that divided the town. The burden of taxes and support. The threat of the Nostras. All these weigh upon Requiem as winter breaks… and some remember the violence that last Spring brought.

We had lots of updates to local mechanics. Be sure to review the following:
PFAs & PC Teachers: Players can now teach PFAs to other players (the Action Request is still required… you can’t just find a teacher and put it on your sheet).
Policy Updates: We have several updates for you to review, including how we handle “orange headbanding" and NPC safety.
March Blueprint Updates: Season and Murder Inc Prints have updated. Swap out your Murder Inc cards at the post office before you use them (recommended time: 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday).
Check out our Local Mechanics, below, for more on our new CAPs policy.
Seasonal prints and Murder Inc prints have been updated:
If you have an item card made from a seasonal print, you can keep the card “as is” until it expires.
If you have an item associated with Murder Inc, you have to get the card updated before you use it.
If you bought non-attending and pre-registered for the SoCal National Event, we have plenty of items for you in your character packets. Some notes:
If you bought full build, you can use a self-teach (no PFAs) this month.
You should receive a new national print. You cannot make copies of this print until after the event.
If you pre-regged and did not receive an email confirming you did, please email us asap.
Recurring Information
Strain Variants. The following Strain Variants are in play this month: Bathory Sempers.
Don’t forget that if you eat a Raider or a Tainted at DRNY, you get stage one Bad Brain.
Important Local Mechanics
Please review a few of our local mechanics. For a full list, see our website.
CAPs Calls
Players may use New York-specific CAPs to purchase Blue Plate Specials and G.O.G.O Gatherers simply by recording it on their sheet. You may also use the following Calls:
JUST SAY NO - Once per event, if you’re an Aberrant and in an Area of Effect or By My Voice call that targets Aberrants or does Aberrant Bane damage, you can spend 100 CAPs and call “Just Say No.” For that purposes of that one effect, you do not count as Aberrant.
NOT TODAY - Once per event, if you are using a crafting or gathering skill and are interrupted, you can spend 100 CAPs and call “Not Today.” Ignore the interruption, and take up to a 5-minute break from the task. As long as you return to using the skill within 5 minutes, you may continue where you left off.
NOTHING VENTURED - Once per event, if you use a combat skill and that skill is countered (i.e. your attack is Avoided) you can spend 100 CAPs and call “Nothing Ventured.” You regain the mind you spent to use the skill.
Challenge
You antagonize your target; who must target you with any attacks. This effect ends if anyone else attacks or does damage to the target, if you leave combat, or if the target cannot see you. This skill does not force a target to engage in combat, it only forces them to target you if they do so. Challenge can’t be used under the effects of Choking Blow, and is countered by spending 5 Mind and using Basic Social Influence.
Compulsion
Delivered by packet or area of effect, cannot be negated by Avoid or Mental Endurance. The target will follow a single command until the task is completed, nullified (i.e defend someone who then dies), the compulsion is broken, or the end of the event. The target must complete the command to the best of their ability. The target is unaware of the specific command until they begin to act upon it, but will remember all actions taken.
Unstoppable
Makes the user immune to all skills and items. The threat will respond with “No effect, Unstoppable” to a negated effect. Additionally all damage dealt to the threat is reduced to 1 damage and the threat will periodically respond with “Unstoppable.”

March Blueprint Changes
The Dystopia Rising Larp Network recently completed a review of a large number of prints; including all prints formerly labeled “Seasonal” and all prints associated with Murder Inc. You can review a summary of changes on the Network’s website. Read on for further guidance here at Dystopia Rising New York.

You can review a summary of changes on the Network’s website. Read on for further guidance here at Dystopia Rising New York.
If you have an item card or blueprint that has been removed from play, go ahead and discard it. No action is required, it can no longer be used.
If you have an item card made from a seasonal blueprint, you can continue to use it until the item card expires. You may not extend the expiration date in any way.
If you have an item card made from a Murder Inc blueprint, you must have the item recarded before you can use it. You cannot use old versions of the card.
You can turn in your old blueprints at the post office during an event, and we’ll replace them with new ones. As a courtesy, please limit yourself to five such blueprints at a time if there is a line.
For our March event, we’ll have increased coverage at the post office between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday; we recommend you come to swap out blueprints and get items recarded during this time.
Hunger & Thirst - Meet the Bathory Sempers
At our March event, Hunger & Thirst, you’re going to meet the Bathory Sempers, who are a society of Semper Morts last seen at the Falls. But as it’s been some time, here’s a primer on who they are and what to expect this weekend.
At our March event, Hunger & Thirst, you’re going to meet the Bathory Sempers, who are a society of Semper Morts last seen at the Falls. But as it’s been some time, here’s a primer on who they are and what to expect this weekend.
Who Are The Bathory Sempers?
Long ago, there was a top-secret research facility at what was once known as Niagara Falls. The Bathory Sempers originate from that facility and were trapped there for many years. The people of the Fold encountered them a couple of years ago, which was the first time the Bathory had any contact with the outside world. This is a group of people who have been uniquely sheltered their entire existence and were quite naive compared to other Wastelanders. Essentially hidden away their whole lives, and possessed of the same hunger as other Gorgers, one can only imagine the emotional trauma that comes with being forced to consume your friends in order to avoid starvation.
Ever since they began waking up, their lives have been full of impossible decisions to survive. Once Liz Bathory established leadership, it helped organize the chaos of their existence, but she was unable to implement any real change until the people of the Fold opened up the facility. No longer trapped, they attempted to assimilate into the Fold as a whole, but without enough aid or infrastructure, they had to maintain their dietary habit to survive.
Why Are They Here?
This winter has been extraordinarily harsh, and they simply can’t continue as they are without aid. Out of desperation, they’ve chosen to make the journey to Requiem to get the help they need - and were promised.
What To Expect
These are desperate people, but they are still people. They’re coming to Requiem to find the support they were promised but never received. It’s not Requiem’s fault… few people were there for the opening of the facility, and the town had its own problems to contend with since then… but their presence is Requiem’s problem.
And it’s not a problem that can be solved in a weekend. The Sempers can be fed, yes, but their area of the Fold cannot support them. You’ll be asked to find long-term solutions to the situation, and those situations will require long-term sacrifices. And while you’re attempting to find those solutions, their presence is sure to disrupt the daily patterns of life in Requiem.
But remember, the Bathory Sempers are not feral, unintelligent, or less capable than any other denizen of the Fold. And they are denizens of the Fold… and protected and bound by the Treaty of the Fold, the same as any other person.
Strain Variants - Bathory Sempers, Consigliere Rovers & Dynasty Yorkers
This week at our March event, Hunger & Frost, we’ll introduce our first set of Strain Variants for Dystopia Rising New Yok: Bathory Sempers, Consigliere Rovers and Dynasty Yorkers.
This week at our March event, Hunger & Frost, we’ll introduce our first set of Strain Variants for Dystopia Rising New Yok: Bathory Sempers, Consigliere Rovers and Dynasty Yorkers.
Strain Variants showcase the unique stories of a chapter by establishing alternatives for both player characters and NPCs. At DRNY, we take it a step further: each Strain Variant will introduce new local mechanics to capture the influence that they have on Requiem and the Fold. If the staff determines there are enough of these variants in play, they’ll allow all members of the strain (variant and traditional) to use the associated local mechanic. If we decide that a Strain Variant’s local mechanic is in play, we’ll let you know as part of our announcements.
This month, you’ll meet:
Bathory Sempers, who lived in isolation for years, trapped in their research facility.
Consigliere Rovers, who abandoned the road to bring their unique idea of courtesy to the Fold.
Dynasty Yorkers, who came to the Fold determined to rise above a Yorker’s traditional station.
If you’re interested in playing one of these Strain Variants, please submit an Action Request.
